Smith, FitzSimmons Placed on I/R

The Detroit Lions have announced that they have placed RB Kevin Smith and TE Casey FitzSimmons on the Injured/Reserve list.

Smith suffered a knee injury in the second half of last Sunday’s loss at Baltimore. In his Monday afternoon press conference, Head Coach Jim Schwartz confirmed that it was a serious injury that would need season-ending surgery, but didn’t touch on specifics.

Schwartz: “It (is) a season ending injury for him and then where it goes from there will depend on what happens when the doctors get in there and really see what’s at stake and all.”

FitzSimmons has been placed on I/R due to a concussion, which he suffered during Detroit’s Week 13 match-up at Cincinnati.

The Lions have signed TE Michael Matthews and RB Cedric Peerman from the practice squad to the active roster.

OK. I can understand taking a look at the practice squad and I can understand a specific need to fill a spot at TE with the loss of both Pettigrew and Fitzsimmons, but we have Morris who has been pretty good in limited action and Brown who has been a decent change of pace back. Why not clear room for some evaluation of our horrid O-line? Incognito should be an improvement over either of the OG’s we currently have.

I really do not like to see Kevin Smith hurt and out of the game however he was really comming along and I believe that he will make a great comeback Next year.
I also believe that Morris will do a fine job filling in for Kevin.
I don’t like the fact that this Team has not been using Dan Gronkowski as much as they should! This guy can catch and has the ability to run after the catch.
We have all seen it in the pre Season and at the practice facility BUT when it comes to the games he doesn’t get anything thrown his way!

This Team has a enemy in the media.
He is allways finding a way to drive a wedge between the players and the coach’s and the coach’s, players, and fans.
His only motivation seems to be to find a way to munipulate the issues and cause trouble within the organization.
When talking to other TEAMS in the press confrences he is allways belittleing The Lions and thier staff.
Giving the other Team a jump in confidence before the game. He has suggested that Drew Stanton should be the starting QB this week I would not do anything that this man would ask the Lions to do.
However, in this case I believe that if you want to sell tickets in this city and state that you would play Stanton for that would help out with selling ticket’s The home town crowd in Detroit allways likes to see our home grown football players take the field and hopefully make good.
I also have to agree that Drew Stanton gives us the best chance to win.
One thing that you can count on is that this reporter does not have your best interest in mind.
