fan sense i was a kid watchin Barry Sanders one of the all time greats he shoulda been hall of fame instead of E. Smith but w.e. we need some beastly offensive guards and another top rb and with a cb the skys the limit. p.s I have faith in Shwartz

I really hope you guys focus on the defensive side of the ball this off season cause it seems as though this season past a lot of the reason we lost so many games was defense related. I truly believe that with a few pieces added to defense then we will have a real shot at the playoffs this next season and for the record Jim Schwartz is the best coach THE LIONS have ever had , He really did his thing last off season bringing in players to be cornerstones and build around Calvin (MEGATRON) I say keep up the excellent work Coach and Mr Mayhew oh yeah and please do us all a favor and sign Stallworth… and the free agent LB from new york Antonio Pierce

I think if Suh is on the board te lions should get rid of that 2nd overall pick and trade down to accrue a few picks and snag Brandon Graham. They only way to win football games in this league is to protect the quarterback and to pressure the other teams quarterback. With that said, the lions secondary will look alot better if they have a run stopping pass rushing defense and Graham is a perfect fit to make a direct impact. The draft is so deep this year its worth adressing this need right away because WR’s RB’s and OT’s will be there in the second and third round. We need to fill the trenches and he’s a solid four year player from a physical school and durable, dont make the same mistake as Matt Millen when we passed up in David Harris and Lamar Woodley we all see how they help their teams now and Graham is the last of those tough defenders!

    Lions Free Agency signies

    Kyle VandenBosch – DE
Chester Taylor, Reggie Bush – RB
    Donte Stallworth – WR
    Terrell Owens – WR
    Ephraim Salaam – T
    Chad Clifton – T
    Mike Gandy – T
    Adewale Ogunleye -DE
    Casey Hampton = DT
    Ken Lucas – CB
    Dunta Robinson – CB

If the lions can sign any number of the free agent stars we will seriously upgrade before the draft and then can bolster everything else around them and potentially make the playoffs. :)

Please get a Vet safety to go along with Delmas, and an All Pro D-end and legit Corner. Competetive play is not that far away. For his own sake, hopefully Levy can handle the hype, improve more, and play his position. I like the rumors swirling about Magahee for a second back.

The Lions should look at Lendale White, and maybe it will give them more of a chance to land Reggie Bush if he becomes a Free Agent. I wouldnt mind seeing derrick mason become a lion either. It would be short term but he has msu ties like peterson. Could be a hard nose number 2 threat.

WE NEED A NEW D-LINE!!! First pick hands down should be Suh. if not him, we could use a defensive end like UofM’s Graham. Stafford will be a good fit for us. second pick should be an Off. Tkl. to help keep his butt off the turf. Backus should be traded. Another WR would be a big help also, giving Calvin Johnson the relief he needs to be productive. I sure hope they dont mess up the draft and free agency. we need quality players.

If Suh is there #2, then take him, if not we need a corner or look at the O-Line. Those are our 2 biggest priorities in this offseason. We have to be able to stop the pass, and we HAVE TO give Stafford time to throw, if we do that then we will be so much better. Rumors are on McGahee or LT would be amazing for another back cause Kevin Smith is not cutting it right now. I think we improve the line, get a decent 2nd receiver, and improve defensively (especially in coverage) then we will be A LOT better team next year, and I am excited about it.

The Lions will likely draft in accordance with Coach Schwartz’s drafting philosophy. Best Player Available. Player over position. Pick the BPA, a special player with talent and intangibles both, best player that FITS. Like Coach Schwartz says, “When this team wins, it will be because it plays with Louis Delmas’ personality.” There are some players out there who match this philosophy perfectly. Safety Eric Berry and CB Kyle Wilson are special players with the personality of a Delmas. They are talented players with intangibles too, special players who are likely the BPA that FITS at #2 and #34, respectively. They fit this defense and this team PERFECTLY. I’d like the Lions to know that there is a growing core of support for drafting these 2 great players. Don’t let the media pressure you into taking less than the best. Take the players who you know are right for this team. When greatness is there for the taking, you take it! That’s how we got special players like Stafford and Delmas. Don’t trade down from greatness, and don’t pass on greatness. Delmas, Berry, Wilson……”The 313 Missile Squadron”. It’s like frickin’ sharks with frickin’ laser beams on their frickin’ heads! Who wouldn’t want THAT?

Some of you guys on here are rediculous. You don’t get better by signing old guys who have been around a while and are at the end of their career. Sure you need a couple to help with the development of the kids but not to carry a team. Sam your list of free agents is crazy. Not only from being able to sell enough tickets to handle the payroll but they are mostly old guys soon to be WELL PAST their prime. Dude we HAD Ephraim Salaam and cut him in december cause he is old and can’t get the job done anymore. Reggie Bush had 1 good playoff game, he doesn’t run between the tackles or around the end that well. We already have guys like that we don’t need more. Thankfully we have professional men who understand this running the show now. The last guy we hired who thought old guys and really fast guys could make us good got the boot and now you can watch him on TV. Matt Millen? You remember him?? Thats what he did, old names (Todd Lyght) and really fast guys who don’t have anything other than speed (Azhar Ahkim). So go get your Reggie and see how far that gets us. Everyone gets to have an opinion, but some of you guys are really not too smart. So go play your Madden and spout off more guys with high ratings names that we should sign but realize in the real world things don’t work like your stupid video games.

I think the Lions’ biggest issue this season was the secondary on defense. Bad pass coverages and too many yards after the catch by opponent receivers. My recommendations for the first three rounds of the draft: 1st round – Eric Berry to accompany Louis Delmas in the back field, 2nd round – Kyle Wilson (CB), 3rd round – Terrence Cody (DT).

The first 2 picks are obvious, but the third is likely to create controversy so let me explain. Terrence Cody is a big guy and yes he was out of shape at the senior bowl. But the reason I like him is that he was coached by an excellent defensive mind in Nick Saban and second he is huge. If we remember last year from the draft, Sammie Hill was drafted for his potential and he was not expected to even start until this year, but he surprised us all. I believe the coaches can work on Terrence Cody to get in shape and contribute to the team. Cody’s size will enable him to occupy at least O-linemen and stop the run down the middle. Drafting him at 3rd round should also humble him, because he was originally a potential 1st or 2nd round draft pick.

While I do agree that the Lions need a pass rusher, I believe that can wait a year. We saw a lot blitzes drawn up by Gunther Cunningham this year and most of them failed due to poor pass coverage. If we take away the QB’s options to pass then guys like Levy can get to the QB in time. For the scheme to work, we only need the D-line to create separation.

I don’t like UofM’s Brandon Graham for the job of DE due to his size. It’s true he played well in the senior bowl, but can he produce that same work ethic throughout the entire season? Guys who play in the senior bowl understand the magnitude of that game and what it means for their future. I’d like to see them show that work ethic every Sunday.

Get Suh, Mccoy or trade down to land a few 1st or 2nd rd picks. u can’t go wrong with Suh or Mccoy tho. r the lions gonna trade E.Sims or keep him?? my favs. r: B.Graham. C.J.Spiller, Weatherspoon, P.Robinson, any OT. I wouldn’t mind Okung, E.Berry, Mcclain, D.Bryant, M.Iupati, T.Mays. T.Mays or E.Berry + Delmas = nasty secondary. I like the rumor of Stallworth working out 4 det. megatron can’t do it alone. Delmas needs a buddy @ safety to complement him, have a comparable work ethic and passion like delmas too.

To give our offense a better chance every game is the key, it only works if the defense does it’s job and gets plenty of three and outs. The, up and comming, players look very good, but we could use one good run stopping power rusher to cut the opposing quarterbacks time, in the pocket, in half and allow the cornerbacks time to get more of a jump on the ball.

We need to get suh. Im from nebraska i watched every game suh has been in he is a beast. remember a couple years ago we started 6 and 2 because we had a d line and led the league in takeaways. Need to draft defensive and pick up free agents on the offensive side!!!

  26. By #20isGOD on Feb 17, 2010 | Reply

I’m not quite sure why everyone keeps saying we need secondary. We need a defensive line. The faster we get to the quarterback, the better our secondary will look. Suh is the absolute best option for us. Not only is a big run stopper, he has the power and speed to get to the QB. Unfortunately he will probably go to the Rams, in which case we should take Russell Okung, because we have to protect Stafford. I also dont think we should trade Ernie Sims, I actually think we should go Sims, Foote, Levy and put Peterson on one of our defensive ends. He was very productive getting to the quarterback the few games he played the end position. As for free agency, I think Reggie Bush would be nice to pursue for at least the sole purpose of having a kick returner becasue our special teams is a disaster. Brandon Marshall would be nice also. I dont know why everyone is so excited about Stallworth. Statistically he has never been impressive, not even with New England. He is a good route runner. It would be replacing one mediocre receiver with another. And besides, Stallworth is gonna sign with the Ravens anyway. Either way, because of the strength of our division, I believe we are still 2 drafts away from being playoff contenders. GO LIONS

Myles, what are you smoking???? Do you really think the Lions could trade smith, b. johnson, and ernie sims for a first round draft pick???? C’mon man this is not Madden… The Lions lucked out to get what they did for R. Williams in that trade… Teams usually do not trade first round draft picks, especially for a group of underacheiving players.

With that being said I am very excited for this off-season especially since I am a first time season ticket holder this year. I would like our first pick to either be Suh, McCoy, or Berry which is almost a guarantee for one of them unless a trade happens. I really like Graham in the second round, but I am now seeing him projected middle to late 1st round. First pick DT, second pick DE, or secondary just sounds wonderful in my mind, but I’m not an NFL exec. so we will see.

In free agency I just hope they don’t go crazy and sign long term high tendered contracts because we don’t need that. We need to build through the draft and get young starting caliber players while using free agency to just fill the holes for the time being.. Maybe in the future we will be the team that is only “one player away” and then go sign the big name, bug contract, but I just don’t believe now is the time!!!!

Ok for the one guy you do know that berry sanders is already in the hall of fame dont you?and for the others that want to draft a RB come on the guys we got are actually good running backs there are a lot of bigger needs in the draft then going out a waisting a draft pick on RB when you cant make a hole for to run thought. and also dont waist it early on a CB either because you can have two of the best corners in the leauge but if you cant get to the QB its noyt going to make a diffeance how good they are.

  30. By lionsfan420 on Feb 18, 2010 | Reply

Alright i agree with a lot of your points. BUT! Kevin Smith is a second year player who isn’t doing bad considering the circumstances he was drafted into. Don’t forget we have an absolutely TERRIBLE OL and maybe that’s why K.Smith can’t produce anything…did any of you morons think about that one. I don’t really care who the lions get with the 2 pick because it’s going 2 be way to difficult to trade down out of it so they better get Suh,McCoy,or E.Berry all 3 help out our defense immediately and make an impact. in the second round i would love 2 get CB Patrick Robinson FSU he’s a great corner and i personally believe that he is a steal in the 2nd round. We should however attempt to trade some players away for instance u can spare Sims,Peterson,Backus, and Bryant Johnson if they worked those 4 players out for draft picks we would be able 2 successfully create a very young talented team. we could try 2 get another 1st rounder and get somebody like Brandon Graham who is VERY good no matter what people think about his size he performs week in and week out. and if we got a couple more 2nd round picks you can pick up Terrence “Mount” Cody if we decide that Eric Berry is the player to pick. Mount Cody is a massive guy who if put into the right system with the right coaches can get in better shape and become a dominant run stopper and force up the middle. I also like them attempting to get Jordan Shipley in any way that they can get him bc he helps in our passing game ALOT and also gives us a return threat which we so desperately need!

“Rd. 1 Berry, & I want the lions to know their is a growin fan base for these pics”. Give me a break. Like tellin them a growen fan base for these pics is goin to make them do what you want, Ha. I wouldn’t take Berry over Suh or McCoy even if we didn’t have Delmas You can cover all day but if ya don’t get pressure on the qb and or stop the run. Those 2 back there by themselves are not goin to be able to do diddy. Come on man. I think we all should expect an even better draft then they had last year. They better expect of themselves and know we expect nothing less.

  32. By Josh on Feb 18, 2010 | Reply

Why should the lions trade sims? that would be the most regreted move for the team. Sims Levy and peterson is looking like a good team. The Lions should get some Decent D-Tackles and maybe a few Corners and a safety. In the draft they should get a top left guard and trade backus so Stafford can be able to throw to Calvin Johnson then get some more then get your D. WORK FROM THE TRENCHES FIRST!!!

  33. By Woodee3384 on Feb 18, 2010 | Reply

I like either DT Suh or McCoy. Or swing for Okung with the #2 pick. And if Taylor Mays drops to mid first rd try and trade up to get him. He is a monster of a safety. As crazy as it sounds I would like to see T.O in a Lions uniform, for the pure sake that he would draw some coverage away from Calvin and force LB’s to match up one on one with Pettigrew. T.O might be a head case but the dude is a football player and he is a older guy who is only looking for a one year deal. Or if they can get Wilfork and Dunta Robinson in FA. Then they could load up with Wilfork and Suh or McCoy at DT. Peppers would be a nice add but he wants way too much money for a 30 year old DE that doesn’t play to his full potential every down or half the downs in that matter.

I think sue is a must take if he is on the board still if not dont waist the pick on McCoy go ahead and get a play maker like berry. If you draft berry we are set in the secondary for years to come. A also understand that we need to get some more pressure on the QB so go out spend some big bucks and pick up the best player in the free agent market J.Peppers. And we could also help out stafford with the o line and maybe another wide out to help c. Johnson so if brandon marshall deal does not workout with denver go out and pick him up as well. If you want to get some more fans in the stands go out spend some money pick up some big time plays and get us to the playoffs. We are not that far away from being a good team.

  40. By Paul on Feb 19, 2010 | Reply

d- line and o-line are horrible! with that said it only makes sence to grab Suh or Mccoy first no question. then second, D.B. or runningback. seriously the lions will never win if they cant stop the run or cant pressure the Quarterback

I’m glad we have loyal fans, but some of these posts are ridiculous. Very few drafts picks can come out play at the pro level immediately and consistently. I think the team as a whole has potential. What I noticed is the lack of confidence. The Lions kept it a contest in many games, but just couldn’t hold on. One bad play and it’s a snowball affect. We are heading in the right direction. The organization is building from ground level. We’ll see if the foundation they build can stick around long enough to see results. As long as we stay healthy, I think it’ll be a good year. There are a lot of good lineman in this years draft. So I wouldn’t mind passing on suh or mccoy. Sleeper pick if they pick a wideout in the later rounds would be Jordan Shipley. Potential to be a wes welker type player.

the lions needs weapons adding seymore from oakland will be key for defense. I would trade culpepper and stanton for micheal vick or kolb. and owens would keep c. johnson on his toe’s and would have to fight for the right to keep the number 81. The lions already have a young team they need vets to show them how to win games.

  46. By matt on Feb 22, 2010 | Reply

Damon, Ya, I wouldn’t mind some of that. No way we’ll fill all the holes needed threw the draft. And we do need some vets to help fill in some holes and to add/help with leadership. Not sure what world some of these peoplle are from. Culpepper needs to go for several reasons. I thought he made them all crystal clear last yr. Yes, we build threw the draft but ya need some FA’s to fill holes also. Whats up with these people. I’d love to keep Foote but also wan’t to see what Levy can do fulltime. And we most diffently need a 1a WR. Someone from the FA pool needs to step up into a CB spot. Because we are not goen to get 2 from the draft. I think, like I said, we’ll have a good draft and fill some holes but not all. We also need to stay healther tha last yr. Man our depth showed. But then again, if we would have stayed healther, I doubt we would be in the runnin for Suh/McCoy.

So what you are telling us is that Jared Devries does not want to come back to detroit? I mean I know he doesn’t hate it here BUT, He wants to see what’s out there in the FA Market for him? I really wanted Jared to come back.
Because, He is a lot better end than a lot of the people in this town think he is.And if they want to know then I think they should check his stst’s out.
NO, He isn’t a super powre house DE BUT, he is probably the best that we have on our Roster at this time.
SO,NOW we Need TWO DE’s? Plus a DT.
And we have to do something about a gaurd and what people don’t give much thought to is that we also need another FB. Because Felton Messes up on to many block’s. that is he isn’t there blocking when he is supposed to.
I don’t know if felton isn’t big enough to make the blocks or if he doesn’t like to block or if he just forget’s that it is part of his job?
All I know is that he misses a lot of blocks.
when Jared Alllen comes to town and it is jeromes job to block Jared Allen, Jerome doesn’t even confront Allen when he is supposed to block him.
So Now we need even more for the Dline than we did before.
I love Cliff Avril he is a great guy.
But, he isn’t getting the job done. And now with the exception of Hunter who is a good player there is no one else to do the JOB.
I hope we find a way to draft Brandon Graham.
cause we are going to need him.

I still maintain Eric Berry (SS) for R1. Now if Sims and Peterson are traded, the Lions should get some 2nd and 3rd round draft picks.

For 2nd and 3rd round, some picks that should be looked at: Kyle Wilson (CB), Brian Price (DT), Terrence Cody (DT), Sean Weatherspoon (OLB), Darryl Washington (OLB), Brandon Graham (OLB) and Jerry Hughes (DE/OLB)

For 4th, 5th, and 6th round: Jordan Shipley (WR), Dennis Pitta (TE), and Anthony Dixon (RB)

I like the enthusiasm, however I really don’t think the Lions should entertain some the the suggestions posted. Particularly at the WR position. Really Stallworth or Owens??? Really. Good talent but piss poor character, let me guess some of you out there are looking at Burris too!!!! There are other players that are good talent and do not have the character issues. Coach Schwartz & Mr. Mayhew did a good job last year in the offseason / free agency and the draft. I trust they will continue to attract quality with good character instead of some of the swill some of you have suggested.

Some of you have some good ideas, but a lot of you people are so ignorant to “what the lions need”. Do not trade 81, ever. we wouldnt get anywhere near what hes worth. Draft suh or berry, i agree that mccoy would be a waste at second pick.. there was a comment about brandon graham only showing effort at the senior bowl.. thats bs. along with being a diehard lions fan, im also a diehard wolverines fan too. B GRAHAM will be a great pickup for whoever gets him, he dominated every game he played in for the wolverines this year, id love to see him in a lions uni.. but id also like to see mardy gilyard in a lions jersey too, he is for sure a sleeper and would be a perfect guy to bring in and put in the slot… hes not that fast but he just gets open. id like to see willie parker or westbrook come to the D. They both are runners, ya theyve been injured but the upside is for stafford and 81. nothing any of us say will be taken into consideration it just gives us bored lions fans something to do..

The lions traded Roy Williams cuz he couldn’t catch a ball to save his life. Burleson is a great addition to the team. Other teams won’t be able to double and triple teams Calvin Johnson anymore. Now if we could just get our QB some time to throw the ball.

for those of you that seem ridiculous, i think we have a great young LB core. why trade sims, cause he got injured last year, look at the 3 yrs prior he was tops on the team in tackles, that means we need DL. we need some good corners and i dont think C.Houston being picked up is the answer. and kevin smith is no barry sanders and nobody ever will be, but he is decent, emmitt smith is not great in my opinion he just had a great OL that made him look better, we get an OL and you will see smith, stafford and johnson’s numbers shine. LT would be on IR if he came here, he is not a durable player and with our not so stellar OL he would be out, which equals $$$$ wasted, there has been enough $$$$ wasted in Detroit with M. Millen. the only stellar receiver we have picked in first round over past 10 yrs has been C.Johnson. R.Williams was decent, but look what he is doing in Big – D, nothing. might be cause he was with T.O. a year and T.O. turned him into a spoiled baby also, and not focusing on football but his own stats, that is why we dont need T.O. you want a wes welker type player go get Adelman from N.E. about as close as your going to get. another thing it dont help that we have had 10 different coaches in 10 years, not that many but seems like it, but this means there is always different schemes being brought in, and players having to learn a new system every couple years, i think we have a good coaching staff now, and this year will be better, but i dont see playoffs for more 2 more years, foundation is being layed right now. Pitt, Dallas, SF, Indy, N.O., N.E. they didnt become good teams for a couple years after rebuilding and had to leave coaches in same position and let their schemes be learned by the players, and they added a few names. Indy had no big names until P.Manning, and he made everybody else look better but took time, i see the same with stafford. get him an OL and watch what he can do.
