The Detroit Lions have officially announced that linebacker Jordon Dizon, who suffered a knee injury in Saturday’s game at Pittsburgh, has been placed on Injured/Reserve.
Head Coach Jim Schwartz: “He was really good on special teams. He was a four-phase guy there. He played outside linebacker, inside linebacker, he played nickel linebacker, he had done a lot of those things. He’s going to be a guy that we’re going have to work hard to replace.”
The Lions also moved safety Ko Simpson, who has been on Active/PUP with a knee injury, to the active roster. Simpson practiced with the team in limited fashion Monday afternoon.
Simpson: “I don’t really know the plan, I just know they’re going to work me back slow. They’re not just going to throw me out there full go, they’re going to let me try to work my way back in there day-by-day and hopefully by the end of the preseason it’ll be full go.”
Linebacker Lee Campbell, who was originally claimed off waivers June 23 before the Lions released him July 31, was re-signed.
Schwartz: “Lee was a guy that we had in mini-camp. We had taken a look at him there and liked what we saw. He was against the numbers game, particularly when we brought in Ike (Isaiah Ekejiuba) before training camp. He was a guy that was on the top of our list to bring back if we did have an injury.
“Jordon was doing a really nice job. It was disappointing to lose him because he’s reaching the point in his career where he was starting to show some good things. He was holding weight a lot better than he ever had, he was north of 230 most of the time. It’s disappointing for him, he’s got a long rehab ahead of him. But he’ll come back, he’s a hard worker. We won’t really know his injury until he gets on the table, but it’s going to require surgery.”
The Lions have also announced that they have released defensive end Jason Hunter.
