Johnson: ‘With the new guys we do have … we can attack them in a lot of different ways’

Posted by Chrissie Wywrot on September 6, 2010 – 3:39 pm

“We are finally getting started with the regular season. Done with the preseason, so a lot of bullets are about to start flying – there will be a lot of live action.

“This week we have the Bears. It’s not necessarily a rivalry, you just happen to know the team real well – their tendencies and what they like to do. We haven’t beaten them in awhile, so it would be big to get a win this weekend. A win would also be huge since we’ve got a bunch of divisional games in the first month of the season.

“We are familiar with both coordinators. As an offense, we understand what Rod likes to do – he definitely likes his Cover 2 and likes to get pressure with the front four. Hopefully we stop that pressure and we’re able to do what we do on the outside. I think if we’re able to stop the pressure of the front four, they’ll have to bring another man down in the box and we’ll have some one-on-one match-ups on the outside.

“Last year we had a good first half, but they went to Cover 2 for the second half and we had a tough time. Obviously they’re going to play Cover 2 this weekend. When we saw them in preseason we saw a lot of that and Cover 1 and Cover 3 as well. But you never know – we may get lucky and catch a lot of Cover 3. Hopefully we do and we can do some things on the outside.

“Against the Cover 2, we’ll have a little bit of a different scheme than we had last year because of the different guys we have. Hopefully with the new guys that we do have now, we can attack them in a lot of different ways – especially if they’re wanting to go Cover 2.”

Just beat them!!!!! No excuses, no explanations, no mercy!!! Just BEAT THEM!!! The city is behind you guys this year, don’t make a joke out of us anymore. Sure you guys could use some more players, but the ones that we have can do the job. That being said, win one for the city, the fans, and yourselves!! GO LIONS!!!!!

I Totally agree with you Calvin, We have enough on our Offense to be able to outdo thier Defence and score enough to get and stay ahead of thier Offense.
A lot of People are worried about our Defence. and the Back Seven.
Well I know that we have the talent to Take care of this and all the jobs that we have this seasonwith our front four and our back seven.
The Linebackers are way better than anyone ( well a lot of people) is giving credit for. I believe that the Lber unit is going to perfome very well, and, even though I do not know who we will be playing at MLBer I am sure that whoever is put there will handle the job Like a PRO! (:
And when it comes to our 2ndry I know that you guy’s are going to play over and above what a lot of people think that you will.
Bring that Confidance Factor, Even the cocky confident character.
Remember how Deon played. Play the same way believing that you can beat anyone that you are going toface!
Your not going to win by wondering IF you can. Your going to win BELIEVING THAT YOU CAN!
WE can win, and we are going to!
    One game at a time!

I was going to say that on the question about weather we think it is going to be a High scoring shootout or a Low scoring Def. matup?
I was wondering Why you only asked for those two scenerios?
Because I was thinking that we will be putting up a lot of points, And we will be shutting down a lot of thiers.
Unless of coarse the Bears have been Playing the Pre season Games and just Masking how good thier team really is? and I would’nt put anything past chicago.
So be carefull defence, and be aware that the bears will use any trick in the book in order to win.
Including like they did when they got Millan to hire thier coach’s best friend so that he could totally destroy our team. Marinelli.
Well, That is the Past, BUT it sure would be nice to pay him back for the mess that he left us with.

Have a great year Calvin!!! We will be watching and celebrating your victories. I live in Dayton, was a different team fan, now I have switched to Detroit because of Calvin Johnson. You are in our prayers for a safe year, while you are running thousands of yards with TD finishes.

If all the players develop like they should,Detroit will find themselves in the hunt for the “SUPER BOWL!!” GO LIONS!!

Mathew Stafford, Just a Little reminder for the Game.
Watch your back! DO NOT assume that just because you let the ball go that, that means that you are in the clear. Watch what is going on even after you let go of the ball.
The bears will take a Penalty in order to get a Late hit on you!
So watch yourself even after you let go of the ball.
Either brace yourself after the pass or Turn and try to avoid the hit that is going to come after you let go of the ball.
trust in the fact that chicago want’s to Take you out.
And the same goes for all of our players.
    Watch each other’s backs!
But, play your game and go Get ‘em
We can win this game! SO let’s go do it!

I cannot BELIEVE that the obvious winning T.D. catch by Calvin Johnson was ruled incomplete!! This is incomprehensible as it was so CLEAR that he had possession of the football and went through all the motions of catching the ball if you watch the tape over and over again it will never change! He only go of the ball in his right hand after the T.D. was made and he did sort of a mini spike with the ball in his right hand. LIONS WON 20 -19 and that is the way it MUST go down in the books!! This should be brought up to the NFL Commissioner and the game outcome should be over turned giving the LIONS the victory 20-19!! This is just inexcusable….I am a LONG TIME Lions fan but, if this is the way things are going to go I may just stop watching the NFL all together and I have a lot of NFL friends who feel the same way. I guess we will see what happens over the next couple of days. If this is not disputed I will be SHOCKED!!
    Respectfully yours,
    Kevin Cantin
