Leshoure’s Draft Day Phone Call

Posted by Chrissie Wywrot on May 2, 2011 – 1:30 pm

Detroit’s newest running back, Mikel Leshoure, posted video of himself receiving the official phone call from the Lions on day two of the NFL Draft.

Said Leshoure in the video, “Lions (are) my new home – it’s the best feeling in the world.”

Watch the video or listen to Leshoure’s conference call with the Lions’ media following the selection.

I think Mikel will help us and help Best be a better running and pass receiver. I am glad they did not go for the CB NE did, both he and Bruce Carter have
knee issues. The Lions do not need rookies coming into camps with that kind of history.

This guy is a Beast! He may run for over a grand his rookie year. He will pound and pound the ball all day. Mikel was the only star Illinois had and preformed awesome in the Big Ten. I’m serious about the 1,000 yards. Nice tandom to have Mikel & Javid. a.k.a Rock & Roll. I will take credit for the nicknames!

This was a great pick for the Lions. If Stafford is healthy next year this team is going to be amazing.

I am a little disappointed that the Lions did not go for a D-Back with this slot but it looks like this kid could really be that punishing running back that the Lions have been missing for so many years. If he can make the defense hesitate even a little bit, it will give Stafford extra time to make a read and stay healthy. Fingers crossed

LeShoure is a beast. He will come in as a complimentary back to Best at first, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if LeShoure is our starting RB by the end of the season and Best is a change of pace back. The pick I’m most excited about is Titus Young. This offense will be amazing with a legit #3 WR on the field. In a 3 wide with Pettigrew inside at TE and Best or LeShoure coming out of the background…pick your poison

Im really glad that we got Mikel Leshoure. Mikel and Jahvid is going to make the running game a lot more explosive.

Possibly maybe mikel should think about how people are talking about “rolling up tonight” in the background of the video. I am really disappointed to hear such comments made by friends or family in a video on the website. the comments are made around 1:40 in the video. The family was smart enough to say they gotta go get some uh uh? yeah they wouldnt say it but we all know what they are referring to. needless to say drug test are something that is frequent and I hope he is smart about his choices. I am a huge fan and hope he is a stud that stays outta trouble as well as stays clean.

What blows me away is the failure for some “experts” to realize that the Lions solidified strong core groups of both offense and defense for years to come (if all goes as expected) which in turn will attract the free agent corners, linebackers and lineman in free agency. They are headed in the right direction and if they have too many talented players in certain areas, then 2012 will be better due to “tradebait”. Great philosophy in my opinion. Is any Lions fan expecting a Super Bowl this year…I’m not…next year….maybe.

  20. By jojo on May 3, 2011 | Reply

this guy reminds me more of Emmitt Smith because one he cuts and changes direction like him and two he takes considerable hits shakes them off and healthy all season. how about the dynamic duo of TORCH and SCORCH.

The LIONS DEN DEFENSE is gonna roar with FIERCE FAIRLEY and SIMBA SUH supporting with GORY COREY WILLIAMS and KVB KYLE THE WILD they together should be called THE FEROCIOUS FOUR. There’s always a fifth so I guess DIE HARD DELMAS fits the bill.

I’m calling the opening season when it does Lions in the wildcard weekend let it be known that these players will combine together at the combine and will definitely step up their game. I am really pleased on the draft this year i think Fairley will help up even more on the d-line he’s got great power and athelicitsm and with Suh, Vanden Bosch, Williams, Avrill< Jackson, McBride, Hill this line is going to be dominate and getting Hogue at Linebacker will help out he has a great chance to be a starter, and adding Titus Young at #3 WR will help he's got alot of speed he'll be able to beat alot of defenders if both Calvin and Nate are being well covered, and having Mikel Leshmore will help Javid Best and Maurice Morris out in the running game and taking the the OT from South Carolina State was a good move because we need that push to help the running game and i do see this team making the playoffs soon.

I believe Stafford has it in him to be tougher and be a good franchise QB. The defense is gonna be a blast to watch with those front four. I feel they must believe that they can go find a Middle Linebacker once this lockout is finished.

@ Jacob Smith, Will and Doug. I was just perusing this site while doing last minute research for my dynasty draft. I am strongly considering drafting Mikel Leshoure. First off, I am a HUGE Giants fan (33yrs). I am only commenting on this site as I find it bothersome that in your intelligent and microscopic like observation you noted that Mikel may be a drug user because someone in the background of the video says, “We gotta roll up (or roll out) tonite” and “We gotta get some uh…get some uh…gifts.” After viewing the video I concluded that the first gentleman’s reference was ‘most likely’ slang for celebrating at a night club and the second gentleman’s statement of getting ‘gifts’ was in no way a drug reference, but likely self explanatory. In your brilliant assessments, did you consider the rigorous testing he endured predraft? The same predraft testing process that uncovered others with illicit drug use or performance enhancers. If he was a user that would suggest the Lions were aware of it before drafting him and deserve any backlash that come with him. Yes, Mikel has past character concerns ( fist fight with a college teammate) but nothing noted of the drug variety. Was his appearance (race, dreads etc) a contributing factor to those assesments and lack of true observation? Because, judging by the lack of discoloration in his lips, eyes and teeth I would bet he isnt a smoker of marijuana or tobacco products. When making what you perceive as insightful comments let them be based on (at the least) a supportable basis as your comments are a relection of who you are, an indication of your intelligence and dictate how others perceive you. Something to think about…

I was thinking about putting ” WATCH OUT FOR THE ” MOTOWN MOWDOWN ” – GO DEFENSE ! ” on the other side. What do you guys think?

I don’t care what nickname we give they I would just like them to have one. We need to make sure we do it at a game with a banner and hopefully it will get on T.V. too. If we are lucky the annoucer will say something about it as well and it will spread like wild fire.

I think that Mikel reminds me of Larry Csonka and Jahvid Best reminds me of Mercury Morris. I like the name of Rock for Mikel and Roll for Jahvid. I hope that Schwartz uses them in tandem a lot because then the opposing teams won’t know who to key on. I also like the name of Motown Marauders for the D-Line. Also, I’ve been saying this for the last few years, even when we were 0 – 16, that the DETROIT LIONS will be the first, yes I said first team to win the Super Bowl “BACK to BACK to BACK”.

Im sure he wasnt thinking uh i cant say marijuana cause the cameras are on. they dont give a fuck. and if Mikel does smoke it wont hurt his ability on the field unless he fails a drug test which wont happen because most of the nfl players switch to k2 or something similar during the season. cant wait for the season and to smash the bears.
