Schwartz: ‘Good news on Fox – no surgery needed’

Posted by Chrissie Wywrot on August 9, 2011 – 1:30 pm

Following Tuesday’s practice, Head Coach Jim Schwartz announced that the team received good news after T Jason Fox‘s foot evaluation in North Carolina.

“No surgery is required on his foot,” he said. “They’re going to immobilize him in a cast for a week and then it’ll probably be another week in a boot and then we’ll just see after that how he responds.”

The coaching staff intends to get Fox back on the field as soon as he’s physically capable.

Considering the injuries to both starting tackles – Jeff Backus (pectoral) and Gosder Cherilus (knee) – the potential long-term loss of Fox was tough to swallow. Fox filled in during Detroit’s win over Green Bay last season when the Lions had injury trouble along the offensive line.

Thats great news for the Lions for once. I know they just went out and signed a couple of running backs but I think its time to look into some OL line help. They have to keep Stafford upright this year if they have any chance. May be Backus is alright and they are just playing it down but I wouldn’t wait that much longer is there is a Matt Light or another guy who can compete for the starting job out there..

We can say that all these injuries will definately hurt us and ruin our season. But I have complete confidence in this coaching staff and their ability to make the proper adjustments and bring in the right replacement personel. I just feel comfortable. Sure its preseason optimism, but look at the decisions made in the offseason, and the focus our players have. We will be fine, and we will still compete in this division. GO LIONS!!!!!!!!!
