Delmas: ‘There haven’t been any setbacks and really the first two weeks have been a breeze’
Posted by on August 11, 2011 – 2:04 pm“To be honest, the first two weeks of training camp have been going great as far as the secondary – and the whole defense – compared to last year. Last year we didn’t have a lot of guys who were familiar with the defense.
“This year we added a couple of defensive backs to the defense who are very smart and gel very well with our scheme. There haven’t been any setbacks and really the first two weeks have been a breeze.
“Amari (Spievey), I’m very impressed with him. He’s now becoming a man, becoming a professional athlete. He’s not a child anymore, he’s not what they call a puppy. He’s accepting responsibility and taking control out there. He’s being a general. His play speaks for itself, he’s out there making a lot of plays and living up to the hype of what everyone wants him to be.
“It’s always good to have veteran players to look up to. Erik Coleman has been in there for a minute now and anytime I have a question, that I can’t ask my coach, I can go up to him, a player who has been through that situation, and I can ask him. It’s always good to have a guy like that on your team.
“The competition is difficult out there. Not just among younger guys. Erik, I call him granddaddy because he’s 75 years old… But he can still run like a 19-year old. That’s part of being a professional athlete, being very competitive and this defense is one of the most competitive teams I’ve been on from this year, to last year, to the year before. I’m very excited. We drive each other very hard and I think that’s going to benefit us in the long-run.
“Tomorrow, man, I’m looking forward to hitting someone else that’s not my teammate. I’m tired hitting these guys, I’ve been hitting them for two weeks and I’m just ready to give the fans what they’ve been waiting for – a winning season.”

Love your hits man, just don’t break yourself. We need you too much. Just hit ‘em enough to put ‘em on the ground and let them know they’ve been visited by Louis.

Stop saying dont get hurt! What the hell? Maybe the last few years our studs have been getting hurt because thats all we think about. Players are more likely to get injured if their thinking about it and watching how they fall. An unnatural fall wil result in injury. To all players: Go play football and play football the way you know how and do not worry about injury. We need you guys to stay healthy yes, but just play the game and leave the rest up to the man upstairs. We finally have depth this year, but the last thing we want to see is a cautious Lions team. Just play and have faith in how you conditioned and lifted weights in the offseason! Go Lions! Playoffs 2011 and NFL Title!

im 59 and for the 1st time in my life im excited about the upcoming season
By Brett Walleman on Aug 12, 2011 | Reply
nikgutentag, you weren’t excited during the Barry years… Especially 91, where we were 1 win away from the Super Bowl…. What about 71… The Lions have had some good teams in the past, just horrible luck… Im very excited about our team this year.. Im happy that we finally have a front office that knows football… Injuries happen to everyone, it;s an uncontrollable factor… The depth of our team is really coming along, it isn’t like past years where we get a couple of injuries and our team falls apart…Besides, Mikel is the only bad injury we’ve sustaIned, Backus, Titus, A. Smith, Fairley are all supposed to be back early…Fairley might miss a week or 2 of the regular season.. I tell you what, our offense and defense seem to be growing at the same time, and same pace…If we can come out of the 1st half of the season at .500, I believe our young team will start clicking on all cylinders for the 2nd half…By then Fairley, and T. Young, and the rest of the young guys should start understanding our schemes and start producing at a very high level…The Lions are contenders this year, and are going to be for the future years as well… GO LIONS!!!!
