Jared Allen trashes cities of Detroit and New Orleans

Vikings defensive end Jared Allen isn’t likely to get the warmest of receptions at Ford Field Sunday.

Especially after Allen had a few choice words for the city of Detroit in a recent radio interview on KFAN in Minneapolis.

“I don’t like going to Detroit,” Allen said, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “I’ll be honest. It’s gloomy, it sucks. Everything is brown and then there is snow on the ground. There’s like brownstones everywhere and I’m like, ‘Awesome.’ I don’t know, I couldn’t do it. If I had to live in Detroit, I think I’d just drown myself in the river that was across the way.

“I’m not trying to be mean but it’s just depressing when I go there. There’s two cities like I don’t go out to eat or don’t do anything. It’s Detroit and New Orleans. New Orleans looks like I’m driving through a third-world country. Every time I get off the plane, I’m like, ‘Oh, flak jacket.’ I’m trying to get down. I’m like, ‘Ah, crap, I can’t carry my gun here. This sucks.’”

Allen is second in the league in sacks with 14.5 and having one of his best seasons.

Jared Allen is of course wrong in his depiction and opinion of Detroit. Unfortunately, I’m unable to argue them at the moment due to the police asking that the residents of our tiny brownstone lined neighborhood vacate the area immediately. As soon as the authorities wrap up whatever they’re doing and arrest those they are searching for, I’ll come back and take on Mr. Allen’s ridiculous statements.

Given the intellect of these comments, I would just consider the source and press on with business. This guy obviously has very few brain cells that work. He has just enough brain cells to carry on his vital functions, but not a lot else. You could say that about any city if you wanted to do so, if you don’t go out, and try to find something that interests you. I’m sure there are some people who say/think the same types of things about Minnealpolis/St. Paul. This guy is just a self-centered jerk, who thinks that everything should be handed to him on a silver platter.

Too bad it doesn’t snow in Minnesota.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but what an ignorant thing to say Allen. I hope you get traded to Detroit or New Orleans! It would be better than the sucky team you play for now.

At least our dome did not cave in. I’d be more worried if I played in the Vikings Dome that the roof would cave in.

Allen is a joker. He loves to jerk our chain. He gets a kick out or riling up people. If he is depressed about being in Detroit is helpful for us. Depressed people are not effective.

This is funny really..Have you ever been in The Twin cities in the winter. 4 or 5 feet of snow 25 below. and there are bad part ‘s of those cities like any major city they have a really nice airport ..(smiles)

Too bad Allen isn’t joking. This dude is a total dooshe (misspelled so as not to get censored). He should just stay at home if it bothers him so much to be there.

Exactly. He and the other Viqueens should be grateful that we allowed them to play in our awesome facility after their ghetto ace dome collapsed.

This guy’s complaining about snow??? There’s more snow in Minnesota then in Detroit…. Wow Jared be happy that you get to come out of your hick town and into a real city for once. Be as happy as you can for that matter, because you’re not going to be happy after the game….

I agree Jared Allen is clearly a jokester. All the Vikings are clearly jokers, as they have been making us laugh endlessly this season. He is just finding a way to stay in the mainstream headlines because he knows as well as we all do Minnesota will be at the cellar of the NFC North for the foreseeable future. He is just finding other means of entertainment off the field is all.

He’s right, It is gloomy. Minnesota is so cold, but it’s sunny most of the time.

Jared Allen comments are so ridiculous, Hey Jared you got more snow in Minnesota then Detroit. You had to play a home game here at Ford Field last year against the New York Giants. Because of the “snow” that caved in the roof at the Metrodome. Jared your team is 2-10 that is depressing.

Tigers are the fiercest when sensing there end. Allen is busted he cares more about his sack totals than his team I hope he plays another 10 years for minnesota so we can smile everytime they get thrown to the LIONS! HA HA HA>

Jared Allen is nothing more than a red neck wannabe, who obviously doesn’t like the racial diversity which exists in Detroit. Of course we can’t all be so lucky to live in Minnesota, the most exciting area in North America to live in, next to Canada. I am sure no one in Detroit or the surrounding area is too upset by the comments made by an obviously closet racist, Come on Jared show some guts and tell us how you really feel!

It is easy for people to forget that Detroit built America into what it is today. The auto industry built the middle class in this country. Bankers get bailed out in hard times. The auto executives get humiliated in Washington. The people of SE Michigan have been surviving hard times off and on for decades. It has bred a hardy stock of individual that understands suffering and is big on compassion. On the other hand, it has bred a tough individual that does not take kindly to oppression, criticism from unknowing outsiders, or people with an attitude. If this describes you, don’t come to Detroit. Stay where you are at and schedule a pedicure. You wouldn’t last long here.

I’ve been to Minneapolis and there are sections that are worse than New Orleans or Detroit. Sounds like someone is sore about loosing to a rival team twice in one season. If your team was any good, you may be able to close out games. You have a right to a personal opinion, but when it becomes public, you make the city you represent look worse than the ones your bashing.
