A few things to keep an eye on today

It’s simple, really.

Win against the Chargers today and the Lions will punch their playoff ticket for the first time since 1999.

But if they lose, don’t lose hope.

In that case, the Lions can still can lock up a postseason bid this weekend in one of three ways:

1.) With losses by the Bears, Cardinals, Seahawks and Cowboys

2.) With losses by the Bears, Cardinals, Seahawks and Giants

3.) With losses by the Bears, Cardinals and Seahawks, and a win by the Falcons over the Saints

The Bears play the Packers on Christmas, so these scenarios won’t be settled until tomorrow.

Stafford record

Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford needs 193 yards to break the Lions’ single-season passing record held by Scott Mitchell since 1995.

Stafford has 4,145 yards and the record is 4,338.

Stafford already holds the single-season record for touchdowns with 33.

The Chargers own the league’s sixth-ranked passing defense (201.5 ypg) and safety Eric Weddle is tied for the league-lead with seven interceptions.

Suh’s welcome

The Lions alternate every game announcing the starters on offense and defense.

For the final home game of the regular season, it’s the defense’s turn.

That means Ndamukong Suh and 65,000 fans chanting Suuuuuh!! as he storms out the tunnel.

Suh is playing his first home game since being suspended two games. His first game off suspension was last week in Oakland.

Actually the offense was introduced yesterday, not the defense. But it doesn’t matter– ’cause we are GOING TO THE PLAYOFFS.

Yesterday’s game was the best Lions game I have ever seen!

I couldn’t have asked for a better Christmas. Great job team. Especially huge props for the O line: Backus, Raiola, Sims, Peterman, Gosler C,, you guys were magnificent. Matthew had so much time to spread the ball around to all our talented receivers and backs. Also, our defensive was superb. Kudos to Houston, Wright, Avril and the rest of the squad for shutting down a very potent offense with huge receivers. And Matthew was a superb general out there showing he was worth every penny the organization gave him. What a job. If you continue that kind of committment through the playoffs we CAN go all the way. Everyone I talk to out in Los Angeles says…”They’re good, but they’re not yet a premier team. Next year. ” Well I say, after that showing on national tv on Christmas Eve, you are a premier team that could’ve beaten Green Bay, New Orleans, S.F.,and Atlanta. And you can beat them in the playoffs and bring Detroit a Super Bowl. BELIEVE!!!
