Lions receiver Calvin Johnson can ring in the New Year with a nice gift to himself today in Green Bay.

According to an ESPN report, Johnson can earn a $4.5 million bonus on top of his $8.875 million base salary if he reaches five benchmarks.

To earn the bonus, Johnson needs to have 12 touchdowns (check), be voted to the Pro Bowl (check), play 80-percent of the team’s offensive snaps (check) and lead the NFC in touchdowns and receiving yards.

Johnson is leading the NFC in touchdowns. His 15 leads the Packers’ Jordy Nelson by three

He is leading the NFC in receiving yards. His 1,437 yards leads the Giants Victor Cruz by 79 yards.

Does he really deserve 4.5 mil more when he cries to the refs for a flag? Really??? If he was a better athlete he wouldn’t have to. His last of the season will be his next game, then he can go back to the bong. 8.8+ should give him enough to buy his dope. sad….sad….sad!! We’re cryin cause the Lions pay you that much.

All I can say about Calvin Johnson is Thank the good lord for bringing his talent to our team. Now lets just hope that upper management doesnt mess it up and not offer up the contract he deserves that will keep him here when that time comes. This man needs to retire a DETROIT LION, and all the records he sets as well.

CJ is AWESOME, but nobody is worth that much money for sports! He is clearly the BEST Wide Receiver in the league NOW! He has surpassed all others. No one can beat double and triple coverages like CJ! 4.5 Million bonus? Maybe 1/2 should go to Stafford, because without such an outstanding QB no receiver could reach those numbers. I mean he is doing that with Burelson, Young and Pettigrew ALL having record years also! Just NO defense or run game! Sorry Smitty, you had a chance to wrap up a RB spot, but let it go again, I hope Leshoure comes back healthy and ready to play!

I agree completely. Megatron’s stats were made possible by Stafford staying healthy and playing the way he has.

No need to worry now. Cruz just surpassed him 7:51 Central.

He got the bonus with his game today. Geez, could you imagine getting a 4.5 million bonus? As I posted on the message board, I can`t believe the announcers never mentioned it unless I missed it. Congrats to Calvin, he surely is the best reciever in the NFL!

Your all going on about Calvin getting his bonus, well that was in a contract signed by Him, and Mr. Ford, he did his part and than some.
Now if you want to rant about a bonus, than go march on wall street where thos CEO’s TOOK YOUR MONEY, on the bail out, and still have their jobs, by doing nothing more than ripping you off, unlike Mr. Johnson, “Who did his job.

Did Calvin get his payday with Gronkowski edging his TD total with 17? Hope TE’s aren’t included in the requirements.

I Agree with the Fact that a Contract was signed and therefore should be Honored! Calvin fullfilled his duties, So he get’s his bonus.
I highly dought that the Fords have a problem honoring that contract.
In Fact I would bet that the Ford’s would like to see him do it again and again until we get that Championship! Superbowl!
The only Unhonorable thing that Happned to Calvin Johnson is that the NFL Did’nt give him a Victory that he won!
