The Lions have bolstered their offensive line by taking Iowa offensive tackle Riley Reiff.
Reiff becomes the first tackle the Lions have taken in the first round since Gosder Cherilus (No. 17 overall) in 2008.
“He’s one of the two guys we felt really comfortable with at left tackle,” said Lions general manager Martin Mayhew.
Reiff started 37-of-39 games at Iowa – 29 at left offensive tackle, seven at left guard and one at right tackle. Reiff recorded 38 touchdown-resulting blocks and 264 knock-downs.
Reiff can come in right away and compete for either tackle spot and looks to be the eventual replacement for Lions starting left tackle Jeff Backus, who is on the tail-end of the career.
