Source: Lions agree to terms on a one-year deal with WR Maurice Stovall

The Lions have agreed to terms on a new one-year contract for receiver Maurice Stovall, according to a league source.

Stovall (6-5, 220) played in 15 games for the Lions last year (mostly on special teams) with one reception for eight yards. The Lions signed him to a one-year free agent contract last August. He spent his first five seasons with the Buccaneers.

The Lions released WR Jared Karstetter to make room for Stovall on the 90-man roster.

Stovall’s signing instantly makes the Lions’ special teams units better.

And will probably add him to the roster right away even though Bentley and Reiff still aren’t listed

Stovall is a good value. A solid special teamer. Last year he looked like CJ Lite as a receiver in the preseason. However, with exception to the single 8 yard reception, he didn’t do so well with the few opportunities he got as a receiver during the regular season. I distinctly remember him dropping at least 2 passes that should have been easy catches.

    Good move, twice.

Had a dozen WRs, cutting one was another good move.

The Lions are in position to be deep; real deep at WR.

Stoval wasn’t much of a WR; think a couple passes last year were caught, but special teams big contribitor.

Don’t think Stoval will push any of top 5 WRs; the two rookies Broyles and Patrick Edwards will secure 4th and 5th, but still good move.

Think Broyles will eventually; next season, replace Burleson for #2 WR.

    Tim Twentymen:

Q: When will Lions begin posting updates to the “Transactions” on this page?

Hasn’t been updated for 2 months since Lance was signed.
