Full starters and inactives

As expected, safety Louis Delmas will make his season debut today against the Eagles and will start. Delmas was questionable on Friday’s injury report and was limited in practice this week, but the Lions obviously feel he’s recovered enough from Aug. 7 knee surgery to give it a go.

“Yeah, each and every day I feel like I’m getting stronger,” Delmas said Friday. “But, like I said, I’m not 100-percent right now, so therefore, gameday is optional. But we’ll see. If my coaches and my trainers think I’ll be able to go then I’ll go.”

Delmas hasn’t played in a game since last year’s playoff loss to the Saints. Even then, he wasn’t 100-percent coming off a separate knee injury that kept him out of the last five games of the regular season. His return should give a big boost to a Lions defense that faces a stiff challenge today in Eagles quarterback Michael Vick and his collection of offensive weapons.

Defensive end Cliff Avril (back) and defensive tackle Sammie Hill (toe) will also play today after being questionable on Friday’s injury report.

Defensive tackle Nick Fairley will start for the injured Corey Williams (knee), who is inactive and will miss his second consecutive contest.

There are two changes to the starting lineup in the secondary with Jacob Lacey starting in place of rookie Bill Bentley at right cornerback and Amari Spievey starting at strong safety for Erik Coleman.

Running back Kevin Smith is also among the Lions’ inactives today. Smith’s role has declined over recent weeks with the return of Mikel Leshoure and the emergence of Joique Bell.

The other five inactive for the Lions are: safety Ricardo Silva, linebacker Tahir Whitehead, offensive tackles Jason Fox and Corey Hilliard and quarterback Kellen Moore.
