The years of astro turf, now the indoor Pro turf; knee injuries seem to be higher for teams with the Pro turf vs natural grass. Is it the shoe worn giving more grip or is it the turf? Can not rule out the shots at the knees.
The Lions have had a rough year so far with the injuries. Stafford seems to be finding his game. Alot of games left to play. After the Jags, eight tough, bring the "A" game, and important games in row.

I've no doubt that Mayhew considers such things, but it's not so cut and dried as you make it. Examples: Ed Reed and the Freak. Ed's missed just over HALF of the games in his career, but he still gets big money. It's all a matter of weighing YOUR alternatives. Additionally, although I seem to be the only person (outside of the organization) who's noticed this, Mayhew and Company have elected to place much greater emphasis than do most teams on dealing fairly with their players, especially the guys for whom they had to compete on the FA market. To me, that seems quite deliberately aimed at convincing the NEXT guy that they go after that the Lions' offers are real. Given the cavalier way in which most teams routinely cut guys, everybody pretty much knows that the quoted numbers aren't worth the tissue paper on which they're printed. Mayhew's way gives them an edge, albeit one that comes with a cost.

I was wondering if all NFL teams have such a huge problem with their players getting hurt so often? For two years people hounded Matt Stafford for being "Injury Prone" because he suffered two genuine severe injuries. What about Delmas? How many actual games has he played in? I like that tall Safety who had the interception last week (Ricardo Silva?), and he doesn't seem to have the injury problem Delmas has. Levy also seems prone to injury, as does Cliff Avril etc.. I think Martin Mayhew should look at these athletes, what they make per game, and decide who is worth keeping and who needs to be replaced. Guys who can't play consistently for 16 games are weakening the lineup, and hurting morale. This does not refer to CJ of course, but the habitually injured.
