Lions safety Louis Delmas is officially listed as questionable for Thursday’s Thanksgiving Day Game vs. Houston.
Delmas has missed the team’s last three contests since injuring his left knee in the third quarter against Seattle Oct. 28. It was same knee Delmas had surgery on in training camp that prevented him from playing in the team’s first four games.
He returned to practice Tuesday in limited fashion and was also limited in Wednesday’s walkthrough, though designations for walkthroughs are estimations because it isn’t officially a practice.
“There’s nothing like having the leader of your defense, a guy who is literally the heart and soul of our defense, and a guy that’s been experienced and played well in our defense,” Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said this week when asked what Delmas’ return to the lineup would mean.
Cornerback Drayton Florence (concussion) is also listed as questionable. Florence was listed as a limited participant in Wednesday’s walkthrough, so based on that estimation, Florence has been cleared to resume physical activity. It’s unclear if he’s been cleared for contact after suffering a concussion last week vs. the Packers.
Second-year defensive tackle Nick Fairley, who’s played very well in back-to-back weeks, showed up on Wednesday’s injury report with an illness and is also listed as questionable. He did not participate in the team’s walkthrough on Wednesday.
Fairley has started for the injured Corey Williams (knee) the last two weeks and has combined for 11 tackles, three sacks and five tackles for loss over that span.
Joining Delmas, Florence and Fairley as questionable is cornerback Jacob Lacey (foot) and Williams (knee/illness).
As expected, left tackle Jeff Backus is listed as doubtful with a hamstring injury. Backus has started 187 consecutive games (including playoffs) since being drafted by the Lions in 2001. If he doesn’t play, rookie Riley Reiff will start at left tackle.
The list of players probable are: defensive end Cliff Avril (back), safety Erik Coleman (eye), kicker Jason Hanson (left foot), defensive tackle Sammie Hill (knee), cornerback Chris Houston (ankle), receiver Calvin Johnson (knee/thumb), linebacker Ashlee Palmer (chest), guard Rob Sims (hamstring) and defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh (knee).
Receiver Titus Young has been ruled out for none injury related reasons.
The Texans have listed defensive tackle Shaun Cody (back/ribs), linebacker Tim Dobbins (shoulder), cornerback Johnathan Joseph (hamstring) and running back Ben Tate (hamstring) as questionable.

Lions fans attending Thursday’s Thanksgiving Day match-up between Detroit and Houston at Ford Field can bring along a new or gently used coat or blanket to help keep those in need warm this winter.
Salvation Army volunteers will be collecting the coats and blankets at Ford Field gates as fans enter the Lions-Houston Texans game for the 22nd Annual Thanksgiving Day Coat Drive.
Gates are schedule to open at 10:30 a.m. with kickoff set for 12:30 p.m.
Thousands of coats have been collected since the drive’s inception in 1991 when former Lions equipment manager Dan Jaroshewich, now of Ford Field, started the program.
