Ghost – I too support your position. I probably should not even have responded to these previous posts. The one that prompted me to was the one telling Reiff and Johnson to “get out while you can”. We all have our own ideas about what would improve this team and it DOES start at the top, so unless the Ford’s back away from this team we are stuck with who they hire to manage the team. The players do have to buy into a system, and that is what frustrates me the most. Penalties and lack of effort by a few of the starters sabatoges any progress this team makes. Your point about not being able to put a good secondary on the field is spot on. We have the draft strategy of grabbing the best athlete available, which is great IF you have all the pieces in place already. We don’t!

Well Tom I support your position. I have taken the bad with the bad since 1957. Before that I watched Bobby Layne lead the team to respecability. I’ve always been a Lion fan since the early 50s so after decades of pain and suffering I have the right to bitch. I have said before and will keep saying that a consitant success or failure of an organization starts at the top and firing middle managment does not work.

Agree with Rockbo1955 “fickle fans” needing their instant gratification. They are the first to jump ship like little rats. Be a true fan and take the good with the bad. Riley Reiff and Calvin Johnson are intregal parts of the Detroit Lions future and will not jump ship for personal glory or success. The reason being, both are high character, selfless team players. I’m not going to comment here on who needs to go from this team, not my decisions to make. It’s as obvious to the coaching staff and management as it is to most of us. So calm down and let the folks that get paid to mold this team do there job. You don’t like those decisions, jump ship. I’m sure there will always be room on the band wagon if and when the ship gets turned. Of course then we will have to listen to the “I’ve always been a Lion’s fan”!

Riley, get out while you can, you will become another Backus and never have a winning season, 15 years in the league and never go past a wild card game if your extremely lucky, you and CJ need to run as fast as you can from the fords, they have been losing since the 1050′s, look at the lions histrory, it speaks for itself,,run, run! Riley did a great job and he is the future of the lions and the future looks much brighter! This team was 10-6 in 2011 and this year was a bad year all the off field trouble and Titus meltdown and all the injuries and those our not excuse but to fire a coach who had this offense running on all cylinders and the head coach be cause he had a set back and they should not have rely on best and Leashore was a very disappointing he had the worst stats of the rb bell had the best numbers and should be held on to! So yes I am A 46 year fan and the fickle fans of today our so into off with there heads mentality! its a shame I blame fantasy football for the lazy boy gm/head coach/owner wanna be for all the negative comments about the lions! well I am a fan of the DETROIT LIONS! and proud of it!

Congrats to Riley. He was a great pickup and will continue to be a powerful addition to the Lions offense. He is a great blocker and can really move. He also seems like a hard worker and a humble guy.

It says a lot about the other players that they drafted last year that an a guy that normally only got on the field during a special package was still better than anyone else they could’ve chosen.

Look I like Riley Reiff A LOT…but does ROY count if he was the only rookie that we drafted this year to actually play LOL…before you go and get all crazy I know we had other rooks play I’m just sayin…:)

Reiff is a very talented player with good upside. He is known to be a quality run blocker which is one the biggest weaknesses of the Lions. So, exactly why did the Lions brass keep him essentially on the bench on a 4 and 12 team? He could have gained a tremendous amount of experience. At the very least, he should have rotated with Backus or Cherilous or both.

What a Joke! This guy couldn’t supplant Cherilus or Backus and was a first round pick.. That goes to show how TERRIBLE Mayhew’s drafting is/has been.
