Titus Young says he doesn’t “want to play anymore” if he isn’t getting the football

It’s been awhile since Detroit Lions fans have heard from wide receiver Titus Young after he was placed on Injured/Reserve with five weeks left in the 2012 season.

Aside from a knee injury that resulted in the IR designation, Young was dismissed the week of the Lions’ Thanksgiving Day game against Houston after he supposedly lined up in the wrong place during the Lions’ Week 11 game against Green Bay.

Reporters tried to talk to Young following that Houston game, but Young didn’t have much to say.

Now – after the long silence – Young has made his feelings known via his verified Twitter account.

Said Young, “Like I said I never been selfish but if I’m not going to get the football i don’t want to play anymore”

He also said, “To Be the best you gotta Beat the best #Me”

For a fan base that has been wondering whether Young would mature enough to come back to the team, this may be the answer.

Obviously as long as Pro Bowl wide receiver Calvin Johnson is on the Detroit Lions roster, Young will remain the No. 2 receiver.

For him to say he doesn’t want to play if he isn’t getting the ball shows he probably can’t handle being the second option behind Johnson, who is considered by many to be the best active wide receiver in the game.

It will be interesting to see what the Lions do here. Now that Young has openly voiced his opinions, one has to think his trade value has probably gone down.
