Report: Tim Walton interviewing for Rams defensive coordinator position

Tim WaltonAccording to St. Louis Rams beat writer Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Detroit Lions secondary/third down package coach Tim Walton is interviewing with the Rams for their vacant defensive coordinator position.

Walton joined the Detroit Lions staff in 2009. Before coming to Detroit he was the defensive coordinator at the University of Memphis in 2008.

This is the the second time Walton has interviewed with Rams coach Jeff Fisher for a position on his staff. He interviewed last January to be the Rams’ assistant defensive coordinator/passing game, but chose instead to stay with the Lions.

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz added the third down package responsibilities to Walton’s title last offseason and he’s considered an up-and-comer on Schwartz’s staff.

The Lions added Marcus Robertson as a defensive assistant in the secondary last year. He’s been working closely under Walton for the past year.

Depending on the players available in the draft, I would love to see FS Eric Reid or Barrett Jones OG/C selected. Reid is flying “underrated” look at the quality of opponents he faced week in and week out in the SEC. He could bring a physical element to our depleted secondary. It is time for the Lions to get some SEC players, which are considered the most physical players in the country.

I wish the Lions would look into trading our 5th overall pick to the Rams for their 16th pick, 22nd pick, and Stephen Jackson. We need a group of players not just one.

1st – Dee Milliner Alabama CB
2nd – Eric Reid FS, Sam Montgomery LSU DE, or Barret Jones Alabama – C/OG
3rd – Jawan Jamison Rutgers RB
