The NFL Scouting Combine is officially underway with coverage beginning on Detroitlions.com today.

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz was available to media in attendance this morning, covering a wide range of topics including personnel along the offensive line and Jahvid Best‘s status heading into the offseason.

Detroitlions.com lead writer Tim Twentyman and columnist Mike O’Hara will have plenty to read throughout the day, but – to wet the appetite of Lions fans – here are some tweets they have already sent out:

@ttwentyman: “Schwartz said there is no update yet on the futures of Jeff Backus or Jason Hanson.”

@ttwentyman: “Schwartz said he was impressed by Ziggy Ansah at the Senior Bowl.”

@ttwentyman: “Lions have hired former Wayne State offensive line coach Terry Heffernan to be their new offensive line assistant under Jeremiah Washburn”

@MikeOHaraNFL: “Jim Schwartz joking about Nate Burleson campaigning for Reggie Bush: “is tampering season officially open?””

@MikeOHaraNFL: “Jim Schwartz on adding to Lions run game: “one thing I’d like to see from our run game is more explosive runs.””

@MikeOHaraNFL: “Jim Schwartz on what 2013 draft means to Lions: “we’re going to need help from this draft.” He means not just the first round.”

You better may correct choices in the draft or I will be coming for you jobs and willl get it done much easier than how you’ve gone about it previously. Its take intelligence and common sense and someone who has a genuis mind that micro ocd oreinted not the plain slow and stupid conventials that get usually hired and achieve min or no results ok.

If we pursue a “big ticket” free agent, it should be a player with leadership skills and a superbowl win say Charles Woodson or Ed Reed, both play positions we need. As for the draft: 1st round-Eric Reid FS, 2nd round-Xavier Rhodes CB, 3rd round-Margus Hunt DE, 4th round-LeVeon Bell RB, 5th round-Omoregie Uzzi G, 6th round-Graham Pocic C, 7th round-John Wetzel T. We also get 2 extra picks, use one on the Honey Badger and the other on a LB.

We have almost no cap space left so I don’t know what $0 gets you in the free agent market. Just don’t scout or pick a QB or DL. We are good with those. Besides that we need everything. Any pick will fill a need…OL, RB, DE, LB, CB and S. It would also be nice if one of these picks could return punts and kickoffs. If we haven’t already, dump Backus, Cherilus, don’t even talk to Avril and Logan. I’m sure there’s more house cleaning to do but that is what currently comes to mind. Go Lions!!!
