Source: Lions to host free agent DT C.J. Mosley this week

CJ MosleyThe Lions are looking for depth behind starters Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley, and will host free agent C.J. Mosley for a visit this week, according to a source.

Mosley has been a backup for his first seven years in the league with four different teams, but he started 13 games for the Jaguars last year. He had 45 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 2012.

Detroit fans might remember Mosley; he was the one who hit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford at the end of the Cleveland game in 2009 that separated Stafford’s left shoulder. The injury resulted in one of the best moments of the Lions’ 2009 season when Stafford re-entered the game to throw the game-winning touchdown.

The Lions don’t have much depth at defensive tackle behind Suh and Fairley after Sammie Hill signed with the Titans in free agency and with Corey Williams still on the free agent market. O.G. Nwagbuo and Jimmy Saddler-McQueen are currently on the roster, but the team needs more depth there.

A solid back-up. We need enough DT’s on the 90 man roster so that we can cut a few that we thought were good but turn out bad.

I still don’t understand why they let Sammie Hill go or why they’re letting Corey Williams go, both of them were solid back-ups that know the system

I could care less what happens this offseason just as long as we start winning games in the fall.

Any chance they will look at Quentin Jammer this off season? I sure would like to see his talents in the D!

    Great, another Jacksonville castoff….. :-/
Forget this guy and resign Corey Williams! Corey knows the system and was a starter. He is the perfect player for a defensive tackle rotation.

Because Williams is old and probably asking for to much. With SLH im sure they figure they can fins a FAgent or 2 that cost less or draft another late round DT.

We have a lot of money in our starting DT’s and we have a real need for starting DE’s. Even if Young turns into a great DE we still need to pick the right one in this draft. We may need to draft 2 DE’s.

Whatever happens after the draft i could see us signing Williams at DT and Lojack at DE back ???
