Cory Greenwood and Derek Hardman add depth at positions of need

The newest Detroit Lions on a roster of 88 are linebacker Cory Greenwood and guard Derek Hardman, whom the team claimed off waivers Friday.

Greenwood, 27, played in all 16 games for the Kansas City Chiefs the past three seasons, primarily on special teams. The 6-foot-2, 235-pounder has 34 tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery over his career.

Hardman (6-6, 300) played in 15 games his first three seasons in the league with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, starting four games in 2010.

Both Greenwood and Hardman add depth and experience to two positions of need for the Lions.

Greenwood also brings some experience and talent to the Lions’ special teams units, which is where he’ll probably make the most impact if he makes the roster.

I always root for the under dogs! If these guys can stay heathy, they have a chance to make the roster in Sept. If they work hard and play harder they have a chance to make the team! Gook luck guys!

What is going on with the lions and Corey Williams? Bring him back and bring in Dwight Freeney to help out the new DEs and play football…

Dwight Freeney is an aging player who wants way more money than he is worth, leave him in the unemployment line and let someone else over pay him! The Lions Defensive line is one of the best in football with Suh and Fairley on the field together and you are only going to see that benefit with more playing time, you cannot keep taking your best players off the field every time and expect to win like a super bowl contender should. Gunther Cunningham is one of the best at developing young defensive players, I have a feeling you are going to see Ansah develop into a very good DE with speed and strength.

I really would not be surprised if Greenwood makes the roster, Greenwood brings depth and can TACKLE AND COVER ON SPEACIAL TEAMS. Also he is actually pretty athletic, good quickness and above average speed. Competition brings the best out of people so lets see who will make the sqaud.

All I have to say is that I hope that it is not true that Dallas got our Corey Williams? ):
