MSU Holds Presser at Ford Field in Preparation for Sept. 11 Game vs. Florida Atlantic

Posted by Chrissie Wywrot on August 20, 2010 – 4:18 pm

The Michigan State football team held a two-hour practice Thursday afternoon at Ford Field in preparation for its Sept. 11 game against Florida Atlantic.

Prior to practice, MSU head coach Mark Dantonio and FAU head coach Howard Schnellenberger held a joint press conference in the concourse atrium to preview the “Spartans in the D” event. In addition, seven Spartans from the Metro Detroit area – Edwin Baker (Oak Park), Mark Dell (Farmington Hills), Joel Foreman (Milford), Charlie Gantt (Farmington Hills), Keshawn Martin (Inkster), Chris Norman (Detroit) and John Stipek (Macomb Township) – conducted one-on-one interviews with reporters to talk about playing in downtown Detroit.

“We’re excited about going down to Detroit to play Florida Atlantic,” said Dantonio. “We had an outstanding game with them in 2008. It gives us an opportunity to come back down and play in an environment where a lot of our players are from. We have 61 players on our roster from the state of Michigan and 27 from the suburban Detroit area, so it’s exciting for them and their families. We want to try and recreate some of the atmosphere that was down here for the basketball championships (2009 NCAA Final Four). It should be a great event.”
