Source: Lions place DT Corey Williams on IR and sign DT Andre Fluellen

Posted by ttwentyman on December 11, 2012 – 5:42 pm

The Lions have placed defensive tackle Corey Williams on injured reserve with that sore knee, according to a league source, and have replaced his roster spot with veteran free agent defensive tackle Andre Fluellen.

The Lions have not officially announced any roster transactions.

Williams missed six games this season after undergoing knee surgery in late September. He finished the season with nine tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble.

Fluellen, who spent his first four seasons in the league with the Lions, worked out for the team a few weeks prior to agreeing to terms on a contract on Tuesday. He was a third-round draft pick by the team in 2008 and has the ability to play both defensive tackle and defensive end.

He was most recently with the Dolphins, where he played in two games early this season.

The Lions will have to make a decision on Williams’ future with the team this offseason as he’s scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent.

Father of Lions DT Andre Fluellen dies in charity basketball game

Posted by ttwentyman on February 27, 2012 – 12:09 pm

The father of Lions defensive tackle Andre Fluellen collapsed and died of an apparent heart attack Saturday during a charity basketball game in Georgia.

Rev. Charles Fluellen was participating in the “Pastors vs. Politicians” basketball game that pitted Cartersville community ministers against local politicians in a fundraiser, according to a story in the Cartersville Daily Tribune News.

The Rev. Charles Fluellen, 57, was director of the Bartow County Transit Department and pastor of Glory Harvester Church.

The Daily Tribune News reported that the minister complained of chest pains and lost consciousness during Saturday night’s game, and was later pronounced dead at Cartersville Medical Center.

Andre Fluellen has been a versatile player along the defensive line for the Lions, playing both end and tackle. He finished his fourth season with the Lions after being drafted in the third round by the team in 2008.

Funeral arrangements for Charles Fluellen will be announced by Mack Eppinger & Sons Funeral Home in Cartersville, according to the paper.

S Louis Delmas starts for the first time since Thanksgiving

Posted by ttwentyman on January 7, 2012 – 7:29 pm

Saturday’s inactive list is a welcome site to the Lions.

For the first time since Thanksgiving, the Lions will have all of their 22 starters in the game. That includes safety Louis Delmas, who hasn’t played since Thanksgiving Day against the Green Bay Packers.

As for the inactives, the only mild surprise is rookie linebacker Doug Hogue, who has played the last 13 games filling in on special teams for the injured Isaiah Ekejiuba.

Hogue was the victim of a healthy roster.

The other inactives for the Lions are quarterback Drew Stanton, corner Brandon McDonald, running back Joique Bell, safety Chris Harris, guard Leonard Davis and defensive end Andre Fluellen.

Harris, who has started the last five games for the Lions in place of the Delmas, missed all week of practice with a back injury.

Bell, who the Lions signed off the Saints practice team two weeks ago, will not get to face his old team.

Inactive for Saints are: WR Lance Moore, CB Leigh Torrence, LB Jonathan Casillas, G Eric Olsen, TE Tory Humphry, TE John Gilmore and DE Turk McBride.
